Analysing an existing Radio Advert
The radio advert that I am analysing is one for Daniel Mayweather’s single ‘change’.
The track plays for 10 seconds then the artist speaks up and says:
“Hey this is Daniel Mayweather and you’re listening to my new single change, it’s out now so go get it”.
Whilst the artist is speaking, the tune is on in the background.
The artist speaks for 5 seconds and the whole advert is for about 16 seconds.
The radio advert is easy to understand and straight to the point making the audience aware of the product and at the same time encouraging them to ‘go buy it’.
The song played at the beginning on its own without the voiceover makes the audience aware of what the product is. Since the chorus of the song is only being played, it is more effective as the chorus tends to be the best part of a song because it tends to be catchy and therefore this too makes the audience want to buy the CD.
The song ‘change’ is played throughout the advert however, when the voiceover begins the song fades and plays in the background.
A clip of his song is played at the beginning suggesting that the radio listeners will know his just from his music after a few seconds his name is said and the artist is known.
The artist saying his name may be done to make the audience aware that it is his material.
The fact that Daniel Mayweather himself makes his fans aware that his music is ready to buy makes the target audiences feel that they know him on a personal level as he himself is telling them directly to buy his material.
This radio advert was featured on FM Galaxy 102.2.
Script for Radio Advert
The radio advert will begin with the chorus of the Christina Aguilera single Beautiful playing for about 10 seconds then the song will fade into the background and a voiceover will appear. The girl band will speak for about 5 seconds and the song will then play again for 5 seconds the whole advert will be about 20 seconds.
The girl band will introduce themselves and their album.
They will say:
“Hi were AquariusBabes, your listening to our album Beautiful it’s out now, so you should go get it”.
At the beginning of the advert the the chorus of the Christina Aguilera Beautiful song is sung it contains the following words:
"You are beautiful no matter what they say Words can't bring you down you are beautiful in every single way Yes, words can't bring you down don’t you bring me down today"
Then the voiceover appears and the chorus fades into the background when the band finish speaking the song comes back into the foreground and advert finishes when the chorus ends.

Back covers of the CDs.

After analysing the CD covers i went on to analyse the back covers of the CDs.
I found that:
· All three of the back covers were appealing to their target audience, in that the text is simple, big, bold, clear and easy to read.
· None of the back covers have images on them- may be done to show importance of their tracks.
· On all 3 back covers there is minimum colour used, again this could be done to ensure focus on the text.
· The text font is easy to read and stands out on the dark background.
· All 3 CD covers have text in small print and a barcode which seems to be important, relevant and also necessary.

Analysis of Sugababes CD Cover
Sugababes are a BRIT Award-winning pop group from London, England. The group consists of Keisha Buchanan, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah. From looking at this cover, it is clear that their target audiences are young girls and middle aged women, however the genre of their music is not put across effectively and will not be known to the observer.
The title of this album is Taller in More Ways, which is clearly shown through the use of the artists posing with their heads held high and with straight backs whilst wearing heels, implying that they are proud of who they are and what they represent. The title may also suggest that everything they try to achieve through their music will have no limits to how far they will go.
The group name and the title of their album stands out, as it is red, big and clear on the white background. However, the group name seems more of importance as it is much larger than the title of the album.
The image is a long shot and so catches the artist’s full figure and making it easier to see whom the artist is. The colour red is used frequently in the image with the text being red, one of the group members stilettos being red, all 3 of them wearing red nail polish, one of the artists wearing red lipstick and one of them wearing a red cocktail hat. The colour red is very feminine and sexy. However, red could also signify danger or may simply give the impression that they are 3 very confident and independent women.
The CD cover has no mise en scene. It just has an image of the band, which shows their importance and ensures all focus is on them.

2nd Analysis of CD cover
The second CD cover I chose to analyse is ‘If This is Love’ by The Saturdays. The Saturdays are a British-Irish girl-group consisting of 5 members; Vanessa White, Una Healey, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford and Rochelle Wiseman. The artists name and title are in silver on a dark background and therefore catches the audience’s attention.
The actual image of the artists is in black and white however the dresses are in colour this is to ensure focus on the band members, it may also be done to show that they lead wealthy lives and their possessions are more important than all else.
The CD cover has gleaming spotlights around the image of the girls, which implies that the light is shining on them, which again suggests that their image is the most important feature on the album. They may also be telling us they are celebrities and always in the spot light.
The CD cover has no mise en scene. It just has one image of the artists, which shows their importance and ensures all focus is on them.

Analysis of CD cover
Girls Aloud are a British all female pop group. It consists of 5 girls Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Sarah Harding, Nadine Coyle, and Nicola Roberts. The title of this album is Tangled Up, which is clearly shown through the use of the rope tangled around the artists and the lettering.
From looking at this cover it is clear that their target audiences are young girls and middle aged women, however the genre of their music is not put across effectively and will not be known to the observer.
The CD cover is appealing to its audience because it almost seems that their a well known group for the title is grey on a dark background and is in capitals, big and bold therefore catches the audiences’ attention before the actual image does as the image is smaller than their group name.
The background of the CD is dark and ensure that the images as well as the title stand out a lot more. The body language and the way the girls are posing suggest that they are confident and are satisfied with their lifestyles.
The image is a long shot and so catches the artist’s full figure and not just headshots, which makes it easier to see whom the artist is.
